SSF

Posted in Uncategorized by Maggie on January 28, 2010

Stirrup Some Fun, or SSF, is a local non-profit organization dedicated to bettering the lives of children with disabilities or life challenges. The program is under the umbrella of organizations related to the Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks & Recreation Department.  SSF offers these children a new physical and visual perspective of the world that lets them experience the many benefits of riding horses.  I first got involved about a year ago when I began working at the Rec. Dept., here in Statesboro.

For children with physical disabilities therapeutic horseback riding often shows improvement in flexibility, balance, and muscle strength. Additionally, the bond formed between students and horses can lead to increased confidence, patience, and enhanced self-esteem. Everyone benefits from therapeutic riding, including the instructors, volunteers and parents who enjoy their children’s happiness and physical and emotional well-being. Personally, SSF is the most fun and engaging part of my job.

Because SSF is 100% volunteer based, we are always looking to have new people get involved! If you or someone you know is looking for volunteer opportunity please consider helping out at SSF. Whether or not you are a “horse person”, the experience is truly amazing. You can find more information by contacting the Rec. Dept. at 912. 764.5637 or visiting our website at www.stirrupsomefun.org.
